Kate Stookey joined Maine Coast Heritage Trust as President and CEO in February 2022. Raised in Blue Hill, Maine, Kate’s connection to and appreciation of Maine’s coastal lands and islands runs deep. After a few decades of working in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors up and down the East Coast and overseas, Kate is excited to return home to work in service to Maine’s environment and coastal communities.

Kate brings over twenty-five years of experience in organizational management, marketing and communications, nonprofit leadership, and project management. She has held leadership positions in a number of organizations, including the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission where she built and oversaw the Public Affairs and Community Partnerships Division for Montgomery Parks, at Pathfinder International, where she led a variety of global organizational initiatives, and at Revels, a national cultural arts nonprofit, where she blended her love of music and the arts with her passion for cultural diversity and understanding.

Kate earned her BA in international relations from Brown University and holds a graduate certificate in organizational behavior from Harvard University and a certificate in strategic leadership from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She lives in Penobscot with her husband (who grew up in Penobscot), their two children, and their dog.

Kate has been with MCHT since 2022

On land conservation: “I believe deeply in protecting Maine’s coast and natural spaces and keeping them accessible for those who work, live, and explore here. I am thrilled to be part of an organization that has such a profoundly positive impact on the people and the ecology of this state.”
