Join Maeve McGowan of Ag Allies and Maine Coast Heritage Trust for an interactive birding walk and talk to learn about bobolinks and the other grassland birds that inhabit Woodward Point preserve.
The extensive meadows of this former saltwater farm are home to a healthy population of bobolinks, estimated to be around eighty birds in the summer.
The walk will be led by Maeve McGowan of Ag Allies who will share her knowledge of the natural history, breeding behavior, and conservation trends of Maine’s remarkable grassland birds.
At more than 87 acres, Woodward Point is one of the largest undeveloped parcels of land in northern Casco Bay. Robust clam flats surround the preserve and provide habitat for a variety of waterfowl and wading birds. Bald eagles and other raptors are a common sight as well, cruising the shoreline and perched high in the trees.
There’s a lot to see at Woodward Point!

Our Partners
Since 2016, the Ag Allies program has worked with local landowners and farmers to increase nesting success of grassland birds through technical assistance, outreach, education, and, when necessary, on-farm incentive payments. Ag Allies is a project of the Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District, but works all throughout Maine helping farmers, land trusts, and other landowners to manage grasslands in a sustainable and bird-friendly way.
Ag Allies is an official partner of the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) and is funded in part by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Maine Audubon.
Woodward Point Preserve is a partnership project of Maine Coast Heritage Trust and Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust.
