
Lincoln Cove, Perry
Located near Birch Point in Perry, the ecologically rich Lincoln Cove Preserve features scenic views of a quiet corner of Cobscook Bay.

Lincoln Cove is good for:
Walking – Follow the preserve’s woods road 0.2 mile to the shoreline before enjoying a peaceful walk along the water’s edge.
Birdwatching – Have your binoculars ready to spot songbirds, migratory shorebirds, waterfowl, and resident bald eagles that nest on the preserve’s short peninsula (please avoid the peninsula from February 15 to August 15 to avoid disturbing the bald eagles – enjoy from a distance).
Hunting – Explore the preserve’s diverse habitats in search of waterfowl, game birds, and other species in their respective seasons (consult Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for applicable state laws and regulations).
How to get there
Access to the Lincoln Cove Preserve is via Birch Point Road. From U.S. Route 1 southbound just past the Perry Town Office, turn left onto Cannon Hill Road. After 1.6 miles, turn right on Birch Point Road, and continue 0.9 miles. The property is on both sides of the road, with limited parking and an informational kiosk on the right, just across from the woods road that leads left to the shore. There are no formal trails.

Notes on topography
This 100-acre preserve is located on Birch Point, a peninsula located on the north shore of Cobscook Bay in the town of Perry. The preserve is divided by Birch Point Road into a smaller northwest (inland) portion and a larger southeast (shorefront) portion.
History of the land
The preserve’s namesake cove was named for Otis Lincoln, one of Perry’s first European settlers. Lincoln moved to Perry in the summer of 1797, where he lived until his death in 1846. He purchased 1,000 acres on and around Birch Point, including land that is now the Lincoln Cove Preserve.
How this place became open to the public
MCHT acquired Lincoln Cove in two stages between 2013 and 2014.
