MCHT’s board chair Tom Armstrong offers a note of thanks
Last spring, Maine Coast Heritage Trust president Tim Glidden made the announcement that he would be retiring at the end of the year, concluding a 40-year-long career in service to Maine’s environment and people.
Prior to MCHT, Tim worked as director of the state’s Land for Maine’s Future program. In that role and while at MCHT, he has overseen the conservation of over 425,000 acres—a staggering number.
And yet if you know Tim, you know that the statistics matter far less to him than the stories of lives improved by these efforts. He’s moved by the kids who kept their sliding hill in East Machias, the Lubec fisherman breathing a sigh of relief knowing his water access is now permanent, and the bobolinks coming back to nest in the open fields of Woodward Point in Brunswick.
The other day, Tim and I met at Woodward Point Preserve for a chat about the future of MCHT and where we go from here. I’d love to share that conversation with you in the video below.
As a long-time board member and current chair, I’ve greatly admired Tim’s leadership over the past ten years. With exceptional kindness, integrity, humility, and humor, he’s navigated many ups and downs, and is leaving this organization as strong and impactful as it’s ever been.
Along with Tim, I’m hopeful for the future of MCHT and deeply grateful for your ongoing support to keep the coast open, healthy, working, and beautiful.
Thank you for joining me in celebrating Tim and his remarkable career. All of us who love the coast have benefited from his work, and will continue to for generations to come.
