Maine Coast Heritage Trust: The First Forty Years
In 1970, while witnessing dramatic changes to the Maine Coast, co-founders Peggy Rockefeller and Tom Cabot joined together to form Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT). By 2010, MCHT had helped to conserve more than 135,000 acres of land, including 290 entire coastal islands. Maine Coast Heritage Trust had also become a leader within the greater land conservation community: pioneering the use of conservation easements, forming the Maine Land Trust Network, and helping to establish the Land Trust Alliance. This is the story of the first 40 years of MCHT’s work.
